Thieves Drive Over Fence To Steal Four Wheeler
While investigating the theft of a four wheeler from a home in Loretto, law enforcement officers discovered the culprit had driven over a barbed wire fence to do so.
Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that deputies responded to a Loretto business shortly after 9:00 a.m. Monday to speak with the victim. He reported that his granddaughter had notified him that his 2001 Kawasaki four wheeler had been stolen from his property on Clax Branch Road. He said that the ATV had been stored inside a locked shed near his cabin.
Reports show that entrance to the cabin was barred by a gate with a double lock. The gate and locks were still intact. The victim said the culprit had gone to a lot of trouble to move things about in order to remove the four wheeler, and had then place all of the items back into their original locations.
While checking the property deputies report finding a section of barbed wire fencing that had been pushed to the ground. They said that a small set of tire tracks were visible indicating that someone had driven over it.
The damages and value of the ATV was estimated to total $3,020.00. Investigation into the crime is continuing through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
